In 1120, hermits gathered around a spring organized into a community, adopted the life rule of Saint Augustine, and founded Chancelade Abbey. The name Chancelade is said to come from the Latin fons cancellatus, meaning a 'hidden fountain' or a 'protected source.'
This Abbey then experienced many vicissitudes that you can discover on-site and was finally classified as a Historic Monument in 1909.
This piece of history will delight scholars but also sports enthusiasts as it is the ideal starting point for many hiking and cycling trails!

After the opening of Lascaux II and Lascaux III, you will enjoy discovering or rediscovering the Lascaux IV cave. Inaugurated in 2016, it represents the complete replica of the original cave.
